Though you treat me badly, I love you madly.
Now all that's left of me, is what I pretend to be. So together, but so broken up inside.
No matter how fast I run, I can't get away from me.
Nobody told me you were cheating, it's just a feeling I had. So if I'm right, you got to lie to me, then I won't feel so bad.
Proud to steal her anything she sees, but you will wind up peeking through her key hole down upon your knees.
Snot is running down his nose, greasy fingers, smearing shabby clothes.
Sometimes I almost feel just like a human being.
The joke that you laid in the bed that was me.
The one that rambles for a million miles, yes, I walk down this road searching for your love.
The road to nowhere leads to me.
There's a danger in loving somebody too much, and it's sad when you know it's your heart you can't trust.
The thing that drives me crazy is when comics say 'I have low self-esteem.' No you don't. You're standing on stage asking people to pay. You don't play an instrument. You want people to pay to hear what's in your mind. You don't have low self-esteem. You might have other problems.
At the root of fear is low self-esteem. This explains why angry people have low self-esteem, are argumentative, stubborn, and quick to flare up yet slow to forgive. Those behaviors are defenses against the underlying fear.
If only corporal punishment cured low self-esteem.
People say to me, Hey, Bill, the war made us feel better about ourselves. Really? What kind of people are these with such low self-esteem that they need a war to feel better about themselves? May I suggest, instead of a war to feel better about yourself, perhaps... sit-ups? Maybe a fruit cup? Eight glasses of water a day?
Is there anything more attractive than a woman in high heels and low self esteem?
What kind of people are these with such low self-esteem that they need a war to feel better about themselves?
Low self-esteem comes from who you assess yourself to be. It's about who you are, and I didn't think I was anything or anybody.
Everyone is walking around with these self doubts, so there's something reassuring about that. And self-doubt in one or a few areas doesn't mean that you have generally low self-esteem. And you have the power to get yourself out of feeling that way.
As young girls we grow up with the idea that life is going to be a bit of a fairytale. But at some point reality hits and we realise that's not what life is about. Many of us are faced with eating disorders and mental health struggles, bad relationships and heartbreak, low self-esteem and confused sexualities and more. Life is very much real.
I had very low self-esteem. Books saved me. I found friends in stories like The Chronicles of Narnia and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. During lunch hour at school I'd avoid social interactions by sitting on the bathroom sink and reading. My mother worked in my school cafeteria. When my anxiety got really bad, I'd put a coat on, grab my book and a flashlight, and hide in the freezer with the mac and cheese.
We get off track. Capitalism takes us off track. You get off the "real" and get on the "wheel." The "wheel" becomes the winning and losing, the succeeding and failing, the "I will achieve." All that stuff becomes so preoccupying, particularly if you're born with low self-esteem, or no sense of yourself, or even if you're just born in the consumer culture. It's very powerful.
Once the pathological low self-esteem goes, that's when things go downhill.
I made a career goals list for 2017 and it's so funny. I have low self-esteem or something, so I put both wishes and goals. The goals were things I'm going to do anyway, because I have no choice because my job is to do stand-up comedy so I have to tour and I have to write stuff. The wishes were all things that could be goals. As in, I bet people who have achieved these things called them goals at one point. But I haven't looked at that piece of paper since.
It seems to be a common denominator with a lot of comics, this low self-esteem thing.
