Normally my head is always filled with art ideas and things that I have to do, deadlines that I have to meet.
Louis Brandeis really inspired me to write this book [Louis D. Brandeis: American Prophet]. It was a crazy deadline. The editor said I'd miss the hundredth anniversary unless I pumped the thing out in six months, because I'd been delaying and dilly dallying for so long. So he both inspired me to get up early and write.
The only part that's ever frustrating is just the deadline. If left to my own devices, I'd work for a year on something that doesn't need to be worked on for a year because I enjoy it.
Plan B is if Hillary [Clinton] is indicted. Then, even if I missed the deadlines for the first couple of primaries, I'll be there to rescue the party. All bets are off.
