When you go out skating with your friends, you need one friend who knows how to take a good picture. Without the picture, there is no proof that you pulled the trick.
Before you get to the strip club, you've got to go through the skating rinks.
Michelle Kwan is an incredible artist, she wears her heart on her sleeve when she performs. She has grown so much from every influence in her career, and she has made herself the biggest star there ever will be in figure skating. She's down to Earth, friendly and always positive. Nobody will ever match her longevity or her ability to be such a strong competitor.
If I had never won a single medal, I'd still be skating in a rink somewhere. There wouldn't be an audience or camera flashes or autograph seekers, but I'd still be skating.
It's just these moments in hip-hop where you feel invincible. It felt good hearing the music on the radio and in cars, skating rinks, and clubs.
I wasn't nervous at all. I applied the same amount of efforts to the love scenes as I did to the skating and the acting and everything else.
I instantly connected with the sport and I have fond memories of growing up on my skating rink that my dad made for us in our backyard.
Back in the day however, careers were strictly built on competitions, just like surfing, though surfing is changing too so you can free surf and still get paid. So I think that rivalry was really because of the fans and the media who built it up, but it did bring something exciting about the sport, just like in any sport, whether it's Larry Bird or Magic Johnson, I think it just made skating that much more exciting.
I'm six-foot-five. I'm not going to win the gold medal in figure skating. But I can try, and that's what matters. Trying.
That's where you just have to get creative. There are all these trampoline parks and there's bowling and there's roller skating.
In group lesson number six I think we learned how to turn backwards and then just kind of wiggle. That wasn't really skating backward, but I guess I was going in the right direction.
Tony, Stacy and Jay really looked at life completely different and that played into everything that they did, whether it was skating or with their friendships. And for the three of us, we had such a close relationship off screen, that it was so easy to have that on screen.
With Stacy, it was interesting because you know he was within all this chaos, all these different lives that were so broken and so much anger and so much frustration and their skating came out of that, their different styles came out of that.
Sometimes my skating allows me to do things I never dreamed possible.
I think you learn how to fall well when you're figure skating. Your reflexes are very acute.
Skating isn't about the medals or the results. I love what I do. It's much more fun to win, but you cannot every time.
I know that I am the kind of person that gets a little bit more nervous than other skaters, but that's because I care for my skating very much. I take all my emotions with me. I can't go out and say 'Now, this is just my job.' I really care.
When she (my mother) passed away, I kind of understood the commitment that she made to make sure that I could stay in skating. And I wanted to live up to whatever I could. Not so much win everything, but just to be the best that I could possibly be, to honor her memory and everything she went through to make sure that I was given the opportunities to be the best that I can be. Not to be a world champion or an Olympic gold medalist, but to be the best that I could be. And that was the most important thing that ever happened in my career.
I begged my mom to let me start skating.
Sometimes it gets a little hectic on trips because we're skating all day long, and all you want to do is eat dinner and go to sleep. So sometimes it gets a little long for my liking, but the second I get home, it's straight to the shower to fix it all up, and we're good to go.
Skating is an amazing form of self expression. It's like my soul at play.
If at first you don't succeed, you get back up and you try ... and you try ... and you try it again ... except ice skating, I hate this crap, I quit!
Punk rock and skateboarding took the 'school' out of living your life, and I related to learning as I went, doing a lot of different things that I liked, when I liked. Consequently, I'm mediocre at all of the above, but still stoked on being a lifetime student of music, skating, painting, writing, etc.
Having the balance to be able to stay on the board in skating and surfing gives you all-around much better balance.
I didn't get into skating to be famous.
